Saturday 9 December : Brecon Cathedral Christmas Fayre

Builth Male Voice Choir were the closing performers at the 2023 Brecon Cathedral Christmas Fayre. The choir were pleased to be invited to take part in this annual event and enjoyed singing in the amazing acoustics of the medieval cathedral.

Monday 4 December : Community Service Awards to Music Team

The 2023 Community Service Awards from the Rotary Club of Builth Wells and District were presented to Adrian Morgan (Choir Musical Director) and Ann Bufton (Choir Accompanist) in recognition of their outstanding work in the local community.

At a presentation ceremony in the Greyhound Hotel Ciaran O’Connell (President of the Rotary Club), accompanied by David Enland (Rotary Club Member), is seen presenting the Award Certificates to Adrian Morgan and Ann Bufton.

Friday 1 December : Concert Dolau Community Hall

Builth Male Voice Choir with soloist Holly Richards after their concert in Dolau Community Hall on Friday 1 December 2023. The concert also featured Duncan Gibbs playing the mountain dulcimer.

The concert was enjoyed by a large appreciative audience raising funds to suppoort Dolau Community Hall.

 

Saturday 18 November : Concert at Hundred House Village Hall

On Saturday 18 November Builth Male Voice Choir performed a very successful concert to support Hundred House Village Hall Appeal. The choir was supported by a number of young artists, including pupils from Ysgol Pontffranc Franksbridge School, as well as Ioan Wilkie, Nia Wilkie, Ioan Mabbutt and Seren Price.

The capacity audience was treated to a feast of music with Builth Male Voice Choir performing a number of new items from their repertoire including “A Place in the Choir” with baritone member Tom Cunningham playing the violin accompaniment. Adrian Morgan was the musical director and Anne Bufton piano accompanist.

Saturday 11 November : Builth Male Voice Choir sponsors for Builth Wells Rugby Club Match

On Saturday 11 November Builth Male Voice Choir were match day sponsors for Builth Wells Rugby Club game against Ystradgynlais in Division One West Central. Members of the choir attended the game and at half-time sang an impromtu set including a rousing rendition of Calon Lân.

Sunday 24 September : After Dinner Concert Metropole Hotel

Whilst Wales were beating Australia 40 – 6 in the Rugby World Cup in Lyons Builth Male Voice Choir were entertaining guests from The Great Rail Tours who were staying at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells on their visit to Wales.

Saturday 9 September : Swansea & Brecon Diocese Centenary Celebration at the Royal Welsh Showground

The Choir was invited to perform in the Swansea & Brecon Diocese Centenary Celebration at the Royal Welsh Showgrounded as part of a full day of celebrations with headliners “Only Men Aloud” topping the bill. The Choir performed two sets of songs in front of a large and appreciative audience.  The audience also joined in with community singing “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehova” and “Calon Lan”. The Choir received many words of appreciation, raptuous applause and a standing ovation for their performance

Saturday 1 July :  Wedding St Mary Magdelene’s Church Eardisley

On 1 July the choir sang at a wedding in the beautiful 14th century church of St Mary Magdelene’s Eardisley. The occasion was the wedding of Thomas and Holly Lloyd. The choir sang before the bride arrived and during the signing of the register and bolstered the hymn singing during the ceremony.

The choir’s singing was well received by a packed church of 200 guests. Choir songs included some old Welsh favourites including Bryn Myrddin, Tra Bo Dau and Pan fo’r Nos yn Hir.  They also sang some well known English language songs including Unchained Melody, You are so Beautiful and Hallelujah.

Thursday 22 June : After Dinner Concert Metropole Hotel

The Choir once again performed for guests from The Great Rail Tours who were staying at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells on their visit to Wales.

Adrian Morgan conducted and David Power introduced all the songs with Ann Bufton as accompanist. The guests had travelled from all parts of the UK with some from New Zealand and thanked the Choir for making the final night of their three day tour so enjoyable.

Saturday 3 June : Fundraising Concert at Llanddewi Village Hall

On Saturday 3 June Builth Male Voice Choir participated in a fundraising concert at Llanddewi Village Hall to raise money to enable local resident Catherine Mackay to travel to a hospital abroad in order to receive cancer treatment that is not available in the UK.  The Choir sang two sets of five songs culminating with an encore of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Sunday 7 May : Coronation Concert at St Cewydd’s Church, Aberedw

On Sunday 7th May the audience in St Cewydd’s Church in Aberedw were entertained by Cor Meibion Llanfair-ym-Muallt (Builth Male Voice Choir) and two local soloists. The concert raised £900 which was shared equally between the Church and Aberedw, Rhulen & Llanbadarn Sports Committee.

The choir was led by Musical Director Adrian Morgan together with Accompanist Ann Bufton. The choir programme included both traditional music such as the hymns Morte Criste and Bryn Myrddin and choir exclusive arrangements of modern songs such as You are the Reason made famous by Callum Scott. The choir was assisted by the wonderful acoustic that the church building provides and the enthusiastic audience members heard the choir at its best. David Power compered and kept the audience and choir laughing throughout the evening.

The first local soloist to perform was Megan Preece who accompanied herself more than adequately singing blues songs. The failure of her microphone did not diminish her ability to fully engage the audience with her presentation. Later in the concert we had Clare Butterfield Elsie providing some accomplished operatic singing including Handel’s Largo.

Saturday 4 March : St David’s Day Concert Builth Wells Sports Centre

A very enjoyable and successful St David’s Day Concert at Builth Wells Sports Centre with guest harpist Dylan Cernyw. A near capacity audience were treated to a feast of music raising funds to support The Bracken Trust.

Handing over £1,200 cheque to The Bracken Trust charity

During rehearsal on Monday 3rd April, Chairman Ian Coldrick and Secretary Viv Jones handed over a cheque for £1,200 to Liz Towns and Barry Hicks of The Bracken Trust, which is a local cancer support charity.

This donation was largely funded from the proceeds of the choir’s recent well attended St David’s Day concert. The choir has supported this Llandrindod Wells based charity in the past. It provides invaluable support for people affected by cancer.

In addition, The Bracken Trust organised a raffle during the concert which raised an additional £487 for their funds.
