Builth Male Voice Choir helped to lead the singing at the Winter Fair Carol Service which took place at the Royal Welsh Showground on Sunday 28th November. Carols were sung in Welsh and English and the choir performed three pieces from their repertoire including a rousing rendition of “With a Voice of Singing”. They were led by their Musical Director Adrian Morgan and Accompanist Ann Bufton. S4C were present to capture the service as part of their Winter Fair broadcast.

First practice of 2021

Builth Male Voice Choir was able to meet to practice for the first time in fifteen months on Sunday 13 June at an open air session at the Royal Welsh Showground. Over forty members, including some new recruits, met under strict Covid 19 social distance conditions in the sheep shearing enclosure.

Adrian Morgan, musical director, led the practice with accompanist Ann Bufton.  A set of popular songs from the choir’s extensive repertoire had been selected for this initial session to allow the member’s vocal chords to get some practice.

One member said it was good to be singing together again but felt a little odd being two metres apart in the strange acoustic of the Royal Welsh Showground sheep shearing arena. The Choir was very appreciative to the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society for making its facilities available and enabling the Choir to make an early start to practicing again after the Covid 19 restrictions.

Some choristers found themselves a bit short of breath on long phrases due to lack of practice over the past year and needed time to “find their voices” again. However, everyone enjoyed being able to meet and sing together after such a long enforced break and are looking forward to their next rehearsal is on Monday 28th at 7:30 in the same venue.
