Llandudno trip raising funds for Hope House / Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices October 2022

Côr Meibion Llanfair-ym-Muallt (Builth Male Voice Choir) spent a successful weekend trip to the seaside resort of Llandudno in North Wales in October 2022. On their trip the Choir performed a Charity Concert at St John’s Methodist Church Llandudno in support of Hope House / Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices, raising over £600.

The choir shared the stage with renowned Llandudno born harpist Dylan Cernyw. Dylan has accompanied many well-known Welsh artists including Bryn Terfel, Shân Cothi and Kathryn Jenkins. His repertoire and performance wowed all present and earned him a standing ovation.

The present choir has been going for over fifty years but there has been a tradition of choral singing in Builth for over one hundred years. In 1888 the great “Llew Buallt” took a mixed choir of 150 voices from Builth and district to Llandudno and won the choral section of the National Eisteddfod. These days the choir under the leadership of MD Adrian Morgan concentrates on concerts, especially for charities, rather than competitive singing.

In the Llandudno concert the choir performed items from its expanding repertoire including the classic Welsh hymn Bryn Myrddin and an arrangement of You Are The Reason which was made famous by Calum Scott of Britain’s Got Talent fame Talking of talent, the choir is always keen to welcome new members who would like to have a go at male voice singing – no previous choral experience required – just an enthusiasm to sing for pleasure and be part of a friendly choir.

The Concert in Llandudno had free entry with a retiring collection raising over £600 in aid of Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices. These care for babies, children and young people who have life-threatening conditions and are not expected to live beyond 18 years of age. The Charity offers counselling and bereavement support to any family living in Shropshire, Cheshire, Mid and North Wales.
