The present choir has been going for over fifty years but there has been a tradition of choral singing in Builth for over one hundred years. In 1888 the great “Llew Buallt” took a mixed choir of 150 voices from Builth and district to Llandudno and won the choral section of the National Eisteddfod. These days the choir under the leadership of MD Adrian Morgan concentrates on concerts, especially for charities, rather than competitive singing.

In the Llandudno concert the choir performed items from its expanding repertoire including the classic Welsh hymn Bryn Myrddin and an arrangement of You Are The Reason which was made famous by Calum Scott of Britain’s Got Talent fame. Talking of talent, the choir is always keen to welcome new members who would like to have a go at male voice singing – no previous choral experience required – just an enthusiasm to sing for pleasure and be part of a friendly choir.

The Concert in Llandudno had free entry with a retiring collection raising over £600 in aid of Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices. These care for babies, children and young people who have life-threatening conditions and are not expected to live beyond 18 years of age. The Charity offers counselling and bereavement support to any family living in Shropshire, Cheshire, Mid and North Wales.

Choir songs included some old Welsh favourites such as Calon Lan, Pan fo’r Nos yn Hir, Yfori and Rachie.  They also sang some well known English language songs such as Unchained Melody, You are so Beautiful and Hallelujah.
